TRANSPORTATION NETWORKS

 

The Town of Hanover's central location gives its firms enormous potential markets for their goods and services.  Hanover's transportation system is reliable and accessible.

 

Highways

Hanover is situated at the junction of Grey County Road #4 (formerly Provincial Highway #4) and Grey County Road #10, providing excellent access to surrounding communities and a network of roads linking the community to the larger markets of Southern Ontario.  Hanover is located approximately 110 km north of the nearest restricted access highway, that being Highway #401.

 

Air

The Saugeen Municipal Airport is Hanover's key to the provincial airport network, offering quality service to both recreational and commercial traffic.  The Saugeen Municipal Airport is located just outside of Hanover on County Road #22.  Runway 01/19 is approximately 4,000 feet in length and 75 feet in width.  The secondary runway 09/27 is approximately 2,500 feet in length and 50 feet in width.  Both runways are maintained year round and service is available 365 days of the year between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.  The professionally maintained runways are capable of servicing and accommodating small to midsize corporate jets and larger commuter-type turbo prop aircraft.  Charters and flight training are available as well as food and catering on a daily basis.  The Saugeen Municipal Airport also offers Canada Customs clearance on an as-needed basis.

Instrument approach 268 NDB/A S7 allows IFR-equipped aircraft to gain access to the facility in poorer weather conditions.  Unicom 122.80 for runway conditions and local airport weather conditions.

Public Transportation

The Bus Depot, located at the Pioneer Snack Express, 857 10th Street, provides reliable, daily bus service to all points in Ontario with nation-wide connections.  Call 519-364-1247 for schedule.

 

Transport Service

Hanover is approximately one day's truck transport to and from major American destinations such as Chicago, Detroit, New York, Philadelphia, Boston, St. Louis, Newark, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Minneapolis.  Hanover is well served by a number of local and international carriers.

 

Great Lakes Shipping

Commercial harbour facilities are located in Goderich and Owen Sound offering up to 700 metres of dockage for large lake freighters at a depth of approximately 6.5 metres. There are grain elevator facilities and bulk cement silos with an estimated 15,000 tonne capacity available.  Loading equipment is generally contained on the incoming freighters.
